A change here applies to bills that arrive from now on. Bills already in your inbox keep what was read from them the first time — nothing is re-read behind you.

What we read off a bill

Pull out the individual cost lines

Read every line on the bill so it arrives ready to code. Off reads only the invoice total.

Put the whole bill on one cost line

Every bill arrives as a single line whatever the document says. Useful if you code by job rather than by item.

Guess which billing period a bill belongs to

Works out the period from the dates on the bill. You can always change it afterwards.

Read tax as its own value

Pulls tax out as a separate figure instead of leaving it inside the line amounts.

Put this in front of every invoice number

Added to the number read off the document. Leave empty to use the number exactly as printed.

Off means only attachments that look like an invoice are read. On catches unusual formats, and picks up more that is not a bill.

Read the email itself, not just its attachments

Some vendors put the whole bill in the body of the message with nothing attached.
